The Essential Process
Copper’s Journey: Ore → Concentrate → Cathodes
The transformation of copper ore into high-grade cathodes (99.98% Cu) involves multiple precision stages:1. Mining. Copper is extracted through:
– Open-pit mining (removing overburden)
– Underground mining (tunneling to ore bodies)
– In-situ leaching (chemical dissolution)
2. Crushing & Grinding:
– Ore is broken down to liberate copper minerals for efficient processing.
3. Froth Flotation:
– Specialized chemicals separate copper minerals from waste rock, creating a mineral-rich concentrate.
4. Concentrate Processing:
– Thickening and filtration remove impurities, yielding a clean, dense copper concentrate (30% Cu).
5. Smelting:
– High-temperature processing eliminates remaining impurities, producing copper matte.
6. Electro-Refining:
– Electric current transforms matte into pure copper cathodes (99.98% Cu) - the industry standard for premium copper. Each stage is optimized to maximize copper recovery while meeting strict environmental and quality standards. Our partnership with DR Congo's top producers ensures consistent quality from mine to market.
